Black Hat SEO refers to exact techniques and systems in optimizing a web site for search engines to understand them. Black hat is the direct reverse of White hat SEO.

Black hat mainly refers to any or all dishonest and deceptive means of driving traffic to your web site. These are not illegal but are meant to trick search engines into indexing the site different than it actually is.

An example of a Black Hat SEO method is to make a landing page that a visitor will never notice, but exists to attract search engines and tricking them into showing your page. The result is that users will land on another page that is totally dissimilar to the link they actually clicked on.

Black Hat or Spamdexing

An SEO method, technique or process is considered as Black Hat or Spamdexing when it follows the followings;

• Try to get better rankings that are disapproved of by the search engines
• Redirecting visitors from a page that is designed for search engines to one that is more users friendly.
• Redirecting visitors to a page that was totally different from the page the Search Engine ranked.
• Showing one version of a page to search engine spiders/bots and another version to users. This is called the Cloaking SEO method.
• Using Hidden or unseen text or with the page background color, using a little font size or hiding them inside the HTML code such as "no frame" sections.
• Repeating keywords within the Meta tags, and using keywords that are not related to the site's content. This is known as Meta tag stuffing.
• Calculated placement of keywords inside a page to raise the keyword count up, selection, and density of the page. This is known as Keyword stuffing.
• Building low-quality web pages that contain extremely little content but are instead stuffed with very similar keywords and phrases. These pages are known as Doorway or Gateway Pages.
• Mirror web sites by hosting several web sites all with conceptually the same content but using different URLs.
• Creating a rascal copy of a popular web site that shows contents the same as the initial to a web crawler, but forwards web surfers to dissimilar or malicious web sites. This is known as Page hijacking.
